Team Polaris

DICO - District Internet & Communication Officer

El DICO, aunque no es un funcionario oficial del distrito según la definición de RI, desempeña un papel fundamental en el apoyo de soluciones informáticas tanto a los clubes como al equipo directivo del distrito.

Habilitades y actividades de DICO

Ideally, the person assigned as DICO combines most of the following skills:

  • keen interest in IT solutions (no need to be an IT professional)
  • good knowledge of Polaris features
  • ability to explain simply to club or district admins how to handle the various and most used Polaris features
  • build a team with complementary IT skills and collaborate with DICO teams from other districts in his/her country
  • resource person for CICOs and other admins who encounter problems using Polaris
  • essential partner of the Polaris team to:
    • forward to the team via RedMine, our common ticketing tool, feedback from his/her district concerning Polaris or requests he/she was unable to handle directly (bugs, support requests or feature improvement proposals)
    • forward to clubs and other users in his/her district communications from the Polaris team (regular updates, feature development, periodic information from the Polaris community, etc.).

In short, the DICO is a key cog in the Polaris community.

Training to DICO's role

When a new district joins the Polaris community, the first team of DICOs is trained by the Polaris team in one of following three languages: English, German or French. Recordings of these sessions are then made available online. Enhanced support accompanies DICOs and their teams through their first steps with Polaris.

In an existing Polaris district, the outgoing DICO is responsible for training a new DICO.

The Polaris team communicates with the DICOs teams in several ways:

  • regular Newsletters reporting updates and major new features, as well as new FAQs
  • the Polaris Release Plans & Notes Project, providing information on development plans and release notes. All RedMine users have access to this project, which brings together closed tickets that have been corrected, open tickets of the version currently under development, and ideas for the annual Assembly of Polaris District Representatives
  • yearly meeting with all DICO teams in each Polaris instance
  • personalized follow-up provided by the Polaris team representative assigned to each instance.
