Team Polaris

Honorary membership

According to Art 4.010 and 4.050 Manual of Procedure 2016, a club may only award Honorary membership to a Guest Rotarian of another club, or to a non-Rotarian. In other words, an active Member cannot be an Honorary member of his or her own club!

Many Rotarians do not understand this rule. However, it is not in our power to change it. We can only refer these persons to the Manual of Procedure.

In some countries, clubs have a different practice and also grant honorary membership to their own active members. To make this possible, Polaris distinguishes between these cases:

  1. RI Honorary membership for rotarians (according to RI rules)
  2. RI Honorary membership for non-rotarians (according to RI rules)
  3. Local Honorary Membership for rotarians in own club (according to local rules)

Granting RI honorary membership to a Rotarian

This is possible only to Rotarian from other club. Two cases may happen:

  1. The club of the Rotarian is using Polaris and is in the same instance (country).
=> Then you make the Rotarian a guest in your club and edit his relationship. Here you can grant him RI honorary membership. See picture on the right.

  2. The club of the Rotarian is NOT using Polaris or is NOT in the same instance (country).
=> Then you first ask the Polaris administrator to create the Rotarian as active member in the Rotary Multi District RMD and then you will be able to make him guest in your club and edit his relationship. Here you can grant him RI honorary membership.

Rotarians can be RI honorary member in many clubs but not in ther own club. Each honorary membership is reported to RI.

When the Rotarian resigns in his own club or dies, his RI honorary membership will automatically be terminated. His guest relationship is also automatically terminated.

If the Rotarian is transferred to another club within Polaris, his RI honorary membership will remain. If he is transferred outside Polaris, his RI honorary membership and his guest membership are automatically terminated.

Granting RI honorary membership to a non-Rotarian

This is possible only to other contacts in your club. Two cases may happen:

  1. The person is RI Honorary only in your club.
=> Then create the Person as other contact and set the RI-Honoray membership in the community parameters. See the picture on the right.

  2. The person is RI Honorary only in multiple clubs and all these clubs are using Polaris and belong to the same instance (country)
=> Then you first ask the Polaris administrator to create the person as other contact in the Rotary Multi District RMD and then you will be able to make him guest in your club. Then set the RI-Honoray membership in the community parameters. See the picture on the right.

Also a Non-Rotarian (other contact) can be RI honorary member in multiple clubs. Each honorary membership is reported to RI.

When the Person is no longer member of the club either his record is either deleted or his guest relationship is terminated. In both cases the RI honorary membership will automatically be terminated.

If the Non-Rotarian is transferred to another club within Polaris, his RI honorary membership will remain. If he is transferred outside Polaris, his RI honorary membership and his guest membership are automatically terminated.

Granting Local honorary membership to a Rotarian in own club

This is possible only to active member of the club.

=> You set the Local-Honorary membership in the community parameters. See the picture on the right.

When you grants local honorary membership to one of your members, this honorary membership will only appear in Polaris. He or she cannot be reported to RI as an Honorary member because it violates RI policy.

He / she has to pay the yearly membership fee to RI.
